Bee Works

LES RUCHERS SENNEVILLE  (100% Natural & 100% Mauritian)

Etienne de Senneville started bee keeping as a hobby in 2008. He began selling small quantities to friends and families. As demand grew, he increased his hives and will reach up to 1000 hives in 2023. He is now, the main supplier of 100% pure, natural honey, around the Island of Mauritius. His Honey comes from the National Reserve Forest, known as The Black River Gorges, situated in the South West. Passionate and dedicated, a particular attention is brought to the healthy development of colonies which in return provide the best honey.

The importance of bees for the environment

Pollination by bees is extremely important. Thanks to them, we can eat foods rich in vitamins and enjoy flowers. Without bees, our world would be less varied and colourful. Bees make an essential contribution to our quality of life. One third of the food we eat depends on bees. Without bee pollination, the indirect and long-term losses would be enormous. But the crucial role of bees is not limited to agriculture. Wild bees, in particular, also pollinate many wild plants, helping to maintain the natural variety of the whole ecosystem. Plants are the basis of existence, food and living space for many other animals, but also for humans. Therefore, bees are not a choice. We need them.

Honey and its benefits

In many countries, honey has always been used as a remedy, either in its pure state or mixed with herbs or other foods. Many people are aware of the benefits of honey or honey sweets to relieve sore throats. Honey is an energy food sought after by sportsmen and women with its easily usable sugar and some honeys are known for their laxative properties, others for healing burns and inflammations. Today, pharmacopoeia is beginning to take a closer look at the benefits of honey, which our ancestors have known for a long time.  Honey has many properties: antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant. In our apiaries, we mainly collect 3 monofloral honeys and one multifloral honey.
