American whiskies, or “whiskeys”, are necessarily aged in new oak barrels. The famous “bourbon”, an American speciality, is a whisky that contains more than 51% corn; but wheat, rye and barley are also used in American distilleries. The vast majority of American whiskies are made in the state of Kentucky.
